Christopher Ward C5 Battle of Britain
Christopher Ward C5 Battle of Britain
"Never was so much owed by so many to so few". If that doesn't strike a chord, this isn't the watch for you!
Here we have a Christopher Ward C5 Battle of Britain (70) 6B/159 Automatic Limited Edition. Launched in 2010 as a Limited Edition of 1940 pieces to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, you'd be forgiven for assuming that these are a staple on the used Christopher Ward market. The reality is that they very rarely come up for sale - especially in almost new condition like this one.
This watch has been worn a couple of times, so there are very slight signs of use on the strap, but it otherwise appears as new, I cannot see a single mark or blemish on it.
"Time to honour - CW were proud to release this specially RAF commissioned limited edition watch to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 1940. Commenting on the commission, Squadron Leader Stuart Balfour, Directorate of Defence PR (RAF) said, "With ties between the brand and the RAF already well established at individual Squadron level, Christopher Ward of London was the obvious choice to create a timepiece to commemorate the very important anniversary." The design of the automatic watch is based on the Air Ministry's military issue pilots watch of the time, (reference number 6B/159) and carries the Kings crown and laurel wreathed RAF crest of the period. Other unique features include hour and minute hands formed in the shape of the propeller blades of the iconic Spitfire which was so central to securing victory. The Battle of Britain was, arguably, the most important military battle of the 20th Century, however, production of the watch was limited to 1940 pieces worldwide making it highly collectible. As a British company we are both proud and delighted to be working with the RAF, helping to commemorate the British battle that most symbolises the destiny of our nation."
The watch in this listing is a rare archive find C5 BOB which dates to April 2017 - some seven years after the original release and many years after they sold out. The movement warranty is valid to April 2022.
The user manual is available here: https://www.christopherward.co.uk/media/manuals/c5bob_manual.pdf
The watch supplied on the correct black leather strap with CW butterfly deployant clasp.
In keeping with the original sales of this watch by CW, 5% of the proceeds of this sale will be donated to The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
